Every day, there are billions of people turning to search engines like Google and Bing, looking for answers to their questions and solutions to their problems.

There is seemingly an infinite amount of websites that exist, and it would take users a lifetime to find the answers that they need! So how do search engines provide users with the pertinent information that they’re searching for at the moment?

There are numerous algorithms that Google utilizes to achieve this, and attending free SEO classes is a great way to learn more about these methodologies. Today, though, the method of interest is called searcher’s intent.

When people search for something on the internet, they do this in many different ways. For example, say some folks are interested in learning how to repair their mountain bike tires. One person might enter the search query “how to repair mountain bike tires.” Another person might quickly type in “change bike tire” to the Google search bar.

The first example is a long-tail keyword, which means that the individual typed in a full sentence or a complete question into the search bar. The second example is a short-tail keyword, in which the user types in only the absolute necessary words needed to complete their search.

Both of these examples are valid and they will both allow Google to deliver the appropriate result to users when they need it most.

Now, say we own a bicycle shop that offers a bike-repair service, and we want to attract customers to come into our doors and do business with us. Say we also have an established website with our necessary information on it that customers can visit (that also provides answers to their questions). How are we able to get more people to our website, and eventually more people into our doors?

The answer is simple: search engine optimization. We can create content around the topics that people have questions about (such as bicycle tire repair.) We can also bid on keywords via Google to rank higher on the results page. Ideally, we will want to bid on both short and long-tail keywords, like the ones mentioned above, to reach all different kinds of consumers.

Combining both of these techniques is a sure-fire way to get more qualified leads for your business, and taking part in free SEO classes is a great way to learn more about how to implement these strategies!
